One popular mistake a lot of people make is to think that by having a lot of diverse sundry unrelated or distantly related services on your website is a good idea. A typical example is a general contractor who does a bit of plumbing, a bit of electrical and a bit of tiling. He might reason that whilst someone is searching for a plumber they might also want to use him for his electrical services. Although this is true in a way can actually negatively impact on your efforts to get a good ranking on Google.

Let me explain:

Let say you reside in Pretoria and spring arrives and the first rain starts falling. More bad weather is predicted . It is 22:00 at night and you notice your roof is leaking! Are you going to find the yellow pages, browse the local newspaper or are you going to Google. Yes you will Google. You will be glad to know that your Kwikwap website is optimized for neat and fast download and display on modern and even older phones! (reminds me to ad a success story section on this website!)

So you are going to google. Either on your mobile or on your computer...

You will enter something like ''leaking roof repair pretoria''

See image below

In the image above you will notice a lot of Google Places come up in the search results. That is because we added Pretoria in the search.

It is free to anyone and it is a service provided by Google so it is stupid not to register your business with Google places.

Scroll down and you will find the first of the organic search results. Those are the people who do not advertise with Google but rely on getting traffic trough having an informative website.

One of my previous clients from Pretoria appears on page 1 at the top of the organic search results.

See image below.

Why do they appear on page 1 in the top spot of the organic search results.

Although the fact that their domain includes the words ''leaking'' and ''roof'' the main reason they do so well is because they specialise in fixing leaking roofs and roof related maintenance. They are specialist in the service that they provide and their website reflects that. The don't also do plumbing, tiling etc.

So in a natural way, without trying to cheat the search engines they have a lot of information about roofs and leaking roofs and only that.

This has a direct infuence on their Keyword density. In simple terms Google is trying to help the guy who at 22:00 at night is looking for someone who can help him with his leaking roof. These guys obviously specialise in leaking roofs and they are not general jack of all trades.

Unless someone searches or things like a general contractor, a jack of all trades and you have described yourself as such and used the actual words a couple of times in your website ''general contractor'' , ''jack fo all trades'' you will not get business from the guy googling at 22:00 at night looking for someone to fix his leaking roof.

No one searches for people like that. (Ok some do for specific reasons like a general maintenance company looking to subcontract to a guy like that)

When you specialise in one service eg wedding photography as opposed to general photography you will in a natural way repeat key words like wedding + photographer on your website, be it in your products and services description, your faq section, your blog or your about us.

When someone use a search engine to find a wedding photographer the person who is a specialist and whose website reflects that information will always be tops.

We ourselves have decided to focus our services and our website content around issues such as Online Training, Kwikwap, manage your own website, Online Tutoring. We have to be unique in the first place in the service we offer to survive and to be successful. That approach also helps when considering developing your website and SEO factors.

This is more true when you have two totally diverse services which you offer. You might do your marketing efforts a big injustice by trying to do one website for two diverse type of services. you will look like a jack of all trades and  you will dilute keywords and confuse search engines as to what you actually do.

Remember you are unique. Be yourself. Like me . I am a past accountant and now a web designer. Will anyaone ever Google Accountant and Web Desugner? No! Defintely not! lol
